Troubleshooting

Click More info, then Run anyway. SmartScreen shows this for programs that aren't signed with a paid certificate.

• The repeat may be shorter than Report phrases of at least. Try 4 or 5 words.
• The copies may differ by more words in a row than you allow. Raise Allow up to ___ differing words in a row, or lower the matching percentage in More Options.
• If the repeat is between two files, make sure Check the documents together as one work is ticked.
• A scanned PDF contains no text to read; check the original document instead.

Common phrases ("on the other hand", "at the same time") appear everywhere. Raise Report phrases of at least to 8 or 10 words to see only substantial repeats, and dismiss the rest.

It may be open in another program that locks it, damaged, password-protected, or not really the type its extension says. Close it elsewhere, or save a fresh copy as .docx or .txt. You can also copy its text and use Paste Text.

A plain-text file without a UTF-8 marker is read with Windows' standard character set. In Notepad, choose Save as, set Encoding to UTF-8, and check again. Or check the original Word document.

Click Open Report, or open the report file in Documents\WRepeatfind Reports yourself. The report opens automatically only when repeats are found, and only if that option is on in More Options.

Dismissals are remembered by your web browser, for that document, by the passage's words. They come back if you edited the passage, opened the report in a different browser, cleared your browser's site data, or renamed the document.

WRepeatfind counts a paragraph each time the text starts a new line, and doesn't count empty lines. Headings, list items, and table cells each count as paragraphs. In plain-text files with a line break at the end of every line, each line counts.
